For our team at Hope For Ukraine, the latest news hits painfully close to home. Our operational office in Ukraine is located in Lviv, and the recent cruise missile attack felt far scarier and more personal than usual.
A devastating strike hit the western city of Lviv, leaving destruction in its wake. Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv regional military administration, reported that the attack tragically killed one person and wounded over 30 others, including young children aged 6, 13, and 15. Behind those statistics are real faces, families, and communities shattered in an instant.
The war’s harsh reality broke straight into our own circle. The apartment of a close friend of one of our team members—who is currently participating in our No Sirens summer camp—was completely destroyed. In addition, members of a local church in Lviv saw their homes reduced to rubble overnight.
This tragedy strikes at an already delicate moment for our organization. Coming so closely after the loss of one of our dedicated volunteers just last week, everyone on our team is on high alert. Every siren carries heavy weight, and delivering humanitarian aid has become increasingly dangerous by the day.
Yet, as the situation grows more dangerous, our resolve only deepens. We are faced with a vital question: If we do not show up, who will?
We refuse to step back. Even amidst fear and grief, the resiliency of the Ukrainian people continues to grow stronger. Neighbors are reaching out to help neighbors, local churches are opening their doors, and our team remains active on the ground to provide food, essential supplies, and comfort to families who have lost everything.
