Support Beyond Shelter

Helping Ukrainian refugees rebuild their lives in the United States

Hope For Ukraine’s Refugee Program also supports Ukrainian families rebuilding after displacement in the United States. Through trusted local partners, refugees can access mental health support and legal assistance that help bring stability, protection, and hope during resettlement.

Mental Health Support and Counseling

Through the Church World Service Orange County USS program, Ukrainian clients are assessed during intake by a Ukrainian-speaking Wellness Coordinator. Those experiencing mental health challenges are connected with a Ukrainian-speaking Licensed Clinical Social Worker for short-term counseling.

To reduce barriers to care, counseling is offered through a combination of in-person and telehealth sessions. Each referred client receives six one-hour counseling sessions over a three-month period, helping individuals process trauma, manage stress, and adjust to life in the United States.

Legal Support for Re-Parole Filing Fees

Hope For Ukraine also helps Ukrainian newcomers in Northern California facing urgent immigration-related financial barriers. Through Church World Service NorCal’s Ukrainian Newcomers Support Program, Ukrainian nationals can receive support with re-parole applications.

Because only a small portion of program funding is available for direct financial assistance, additional support is needed to help cover the $1,020 re-parole filing fee. Priority is given to clients facing financial hardship, and all direct assistance is paid directly to USCIS.

This support helps protect legal status, reduce uncertainty, and give Ukrainian families a more stable path forward as they rebuild their lives in the United States.

Ukrainian refugees need more than temporary shelter. They also need emotional support, legal stability, and practical guidance as they begin again. This work helps families move forward with greater safety, confidence, and dignity.

They soon lost contact, and she still does not know if he survived.
