The Problem of Internally Displaced Refugees

Understanding the Refugee Crisis and Impact in Ukraine

The current Russia-Ukraine conflict has triggered a mass humanitarian crisis that has resulted in the displacement of a large number of people within the country. These internally displaced refugees face numerous challenges in their daily lives just to survive. These people are forced to leave their homes behind due to the war, seeking safety in other unknown cities. These unfamiliar surroundings during wartime can create situations where finding basic necessities like food, water, and shelter is hard. With limited resources and support, survival becomes hard for the internally displaced population.

The kind of problems these internally displaced  refugees have to go through daily is unimaginable. The biggest problem for them is to lose their homes and community. These people are uprooted from the places they once called home and family due to the conflicts. Friends, families, and neighbors are all gone due to circumstances no one asked for. The limited access to basic supplies is another daily struggle for the internal refugees. Getting access to food, water, and shelter in times like this is difficult, especially in an unfamiliar place. Problems like unsanitary living conditions, diseases, and malnutrition are very common among them.
Furthermore, children don’t have access to school and education due to constantly having to move around for safety issues. The psychological distress and trauma from the displacement take a great toll on the mental health of everyone, especially children. Anxiety, stress, and depression is a major concern. Also, due to the displacement, many people lose their jobs, resulting in economic hardships and trouble rebuilding their lives. Things get bad when they have to face discrimination from the host communities, as the refugees are often referred to as burdens. We request everyone to help each other in times like these.

HFU's Response to The Internally Displaced Refugees Problem

Hope For Ukraine is deeply committed to offering support and assistance to internally displaced refugees due to the war. As a part of our mission, we run a refugee center in Lviv where we house internally displaced people from all backgrounds. We shelter individuals and families who have lost their homes due to the war. Through our Refugees project, We provide individuals with a safe place to live with warm food to eat and a bed to sleep on. We also provide medical assistance to injured individuals and psychological support to alleviate trauma. Every person who enters through our doors is greeted with warmth, care, and respect.

Our mission is to support as many individuals and families that had to leave their houses due to the war. We address these issues with immediate food, shelter, and clothing support. Also, we actively facilitate initiatives to reunite individuals separated from their families. We collaborate with local and international organizations to support efforts to locate missing family members, facilitate communication, and arrange reunions whenever possible. Of course, none of our work would be possible without the generous support of our donors and the selfless help from our volunteers. Their contributions have made it possible for us to run our refugee center and implement essential support programs. In times like this, with your continuous support, Hope For Ukraine has stepped up as a light beacon to support those who need help the most. Through collective efforts, we strive to uphold the dignity and resilience of internally displaced refugees, offering them support and resources.
