Children Among Victims in New Strikes — Why Your Support for Hope for Ukraine Matters More Than Ever
In the early hours of October 22, new waves of Russian drone and missile strikes hit Ukraine’s cities, claiming the lives of at least seven people, including two children, and injuring dozens more. A kindergarten in Kharkiv was among the targets, leaving terrified children and teachers trapped amid rubble and smoke. In the Kyiv region, families were caught in burning homes after overnight attacks that destroyed neighborhoods and critical infrastructure.
As global attention turns to diplomatic uncertainty, life on the ground in Ukraine remains a daily struggle for survival. Amid the destruction, Hope for Ukraine continues to deliver tangible relief to the communities that need it most. Every day, our volunteers are on the move—bringing food, shelter, and compassion to families whose lives have been shattered by war.
In Kharkiv and nearby villages, Hope for Ukraine’s teams are organizing emergency food deliveries, including truckloads of potatoes, bread, and canned goods for families who no longer have access to functioning grocery stores or electricity. What may seem like a simple act—a bag of potatoes or a loaf of bread—means stability, warmth, and the reassurance that someone still cares.
Through our Family Support Project, families receive essential aid such as food baskets, hygiene kits, clothing, solar energy resilience kits, and small grants to repair damaged homes. In areas where infrastructure has been devastated, we are also providing firewood to help families endure freezing nights when power and gas are cut off. This program keeps families together, alive, and hopeful when uncertainty is their only constant.
Children remain at the heart of Hope for Ukraine’s mission. Many of the same children rescued from attacks like the one in Kharkiv are enrolled in our after-school programs, where they receive emotional support, art therapy, and the chance to rediscover joy. Our centers are places where fear begins to fade, replaced by laughter, creativity, and a renewed belief in the future.
When hospitals and schools lose electricity, Hope for Ukraine provides alternative power sources through generators and solar energy kits. These small interventions often make the difference between chaos and continuity. They help doctors keep clinics open and teachers continue classes, even in the darkest times.
“Our volunteers witness heartbreak every day,” said Yuriy Boyechko, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Hope for Ukraine. “But they also witness resilience. Every warm meal served and every family sheltered is proof that compassion can outlast conflict. We can’t stop the missiles—but together we can heal the people they harm.”
Boyechko’s leadership has been central to building a network of nationwide relief, bringing together local volunteers and international donors to sustain communities across Ukraine. What began as a small initiative to help displaced families has grown into a mission of hope that reaches thousands daily.
Moments like this underline why your support is so critical. Every contribution—no matter how small—helps us respond when tragedy strikes. Donations make it possible to feed hungry families, restore damaged homes, comfort frightened children, and deliver firewood and energy relief to those living without power.
To everyone who continues to give, Hope for Ukraine expresses its deepest gratitude during this season of generosity. Your compassion fuels every act of kindness we deliver, every meal we serve, and every life we help rebuild.
If you would like to help, please consider donating today. Your decision to donate to Ukraine means more than aid—it means hope.
